World Wide Bearing Conference 2005 19th-22ND MAY, 2005


Many delegates representing every continent across the globe attended a highly successful 8th Bearing Conference over four days at the Hilton Sorrento Palace, Italy.

The World Wide Bearing Conference 2005 is the only Bearing specific Conference of its kind in the world and provides a tremendous opportunity to unite a diverse group of manufacturers, component part producers, distributors and IT computer Bearing industry networks across geographical, legal and cultural domains.

Delegates had the opportunity to hear from leading and respected Bearing Industry professionals from Japan, Europe, Russia, the U.S.A. and Australia. Various Bearing related topics were presented included :

Dr Pietro Prosino from PROSINO S.r.l. presented a paper on the latest production Rings for high Precision Bearings and advantage of an integrated process flow. As a prime Bearing Component Producer specialising in new Technology advancement of Rings, Dr. Prosino spoke of concern for potential counterfeit bearing related products coming on the European market without identification.

Mr. Gerald Barnes from BearingMatrix.com, Texas, USA, presented a new IT Computer Network System for Suppliers, Manufacturers, Distributors and Governments. This Computer process drastically reduces the need for the time spent in different roles of the Bearing Industry in general.

Mr. Francis Dunn from Tokyo Japan, presented his views on the Asian Bearing Manufacturing and Distributing process and the huge back-order situation related to the Steel industry in General. The Conference was told of financial investors making significant profits in pre buying and selling steel stock due to lead times in the production of bearings.

Dr Giustino Izzo, President of the FNDI, was present and representing more than 100 Bearing distributors throughout Italy, Dr Izzo gave an overview of the current challenges facing the Italian Bearing landscape and the need for greater cooperation between parties.

Mr Ian Mc Pherson the Director and founder of the Bearing Conference presented various case studies including legal matters, false aircraft bearing certifications, counterfeit branding, fake packaging & rebadged bearings and provided constructive feedback on the dark side of Bearing industry leadership and the effect this has on behaviour and reputation.

An interactive discussion by a Senior HR Business Consultant from Australia, Ms Michelle Waters who formulated this presentation based on feedback from an informal discussion by participants the day prior on the demise of the Bearing Industry, due, in part to competition between manufacturers and distributors.

Ms Waters emphasized the need for participants to develop their strategic business plans based on a clear understanding of current industry trends and suggested unity as an industry was the way forward, particularly when faced with external conditions that are increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and thwart with ambiguity 1). Referring to a recent trend analysis from the Institute of the Future 2) she said globalisation, technology, economics, currencies, trade agreements and education were set to pose increasing challenges for shifting markets and the Bearing Industry as a whole over the next decade.

Ms Waters facilitated a session with a number of participants keen to explore the development ethical practice for the Bearing Industry plus a "Code of Conduct". Core values were articulated by the group and recorded as a starting point and the principles of collaboration, reciprocity and cooperation were discussed.

In addition, delegates suggested the need for the establishment of an International Bearing Association/organisation born out of the conference represented by each continent and section of the industry. A draft document will be circulated to participants for comment.

One of the key highlights of the conference was lunch and a visit to the VLF Bearing factory in Naples. Delegates were provided with a fabulous lunch, followed by a tour of the manufacturing plant and presentation by the VLF Board of Directors. This was a wonderful afternoon and our heartfelt thanks are extended to the staff of VLF.

The conference was well paced with time for other agendas ie. Private group discussions and socializing, with visits around Sorrento and to Italian Historical places Pompei, Mt.Vesuvio, Positano and Capri.
